Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how your data is handled when you use the Backyard Ball website (backyardball.schmutweiss.com) and the Backyard Ball iOS app. We keep data collection to an absolute minimum, the same principle that guides the app itself: no ads, no tracking, no nonsense.

1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing is:

SCHMUT/WEISS GmbH Sieveringer Straße 9/13 1190 Vienna, Austria

Email: office@schmutweiss.com

2. This website

The Backyard Ball website is a static marketing site. We do not use cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, advertising networks, contact forms, or user accounts on this website.

Server logs

When you visit the website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical access data that every web server receives, including your IP address, the requested page, the date and time of the request, the referring page, and your browser and operating system. This data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating a secure and stable website. It is not combined with other data and is not used to identify you.

Our website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA), which acts as our processor. Vercel's privacy policy: https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

3. The Backyard Ball app

Backyard Ball is designed to run fully offline. The app does not require an account, does not collect personal data, and does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. Your game progress, settings, and best score are stored locally on your device.

App Store and in-app purchases

The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Backyard Ball is free to download and offers optional, purely cosmetic in-app purchases: individual player skins (such as Shado, Kim, Royale, Chomp, and the legendary Ginga) and an "Unlock all skins" bundle. All of these are one-time, non-consumable purchases.

When you download the app or make a purchase, Apple processes the transaction and related data (such as your Apple ID and payment information) as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. We never receive or store your payment details. To remember which skins you own and to support Apple's "Restore Purchases" function, the app records your purchase entitlements; this is handled through Apple's StoreKit and, where applicable, our purchase provider RevenueCat, Inc. (San Francisco, CA, USA), using an anonymous, randomly generated identifier that is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID. We may also receive anonymous, aggregated sales and performance statistics from Apple that do not allow us to identify individual users.

Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

4. Legal basis

  • Server logs: legitimate interest in a secure, functioning website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • In-app purchases and restoring them: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), processed by Apple and our purchase provider.

5. Data retention

Server log data is retained only for as long as necessary for security and operational purposes and is then deleted or anonymized. Purchase entitlements tied to an anonymous identifier are retained for as long as needed to provide and restore your purchases. We do not store any personal data that identifies you from the app.

6. Children

Backyard Ball does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. In-app purchases are managed by Apple and can be restricted using Apple's Screen Time and Family Sharing parental controls.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object to processing of your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at office@schmutweiss.com.

8. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe that the processing of your data violates data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority in Austria is:

Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde) Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna, Austria https://www.dsb.gv.at

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to the app, the website, or legal requirements. The current version is always available on this page.
